About Us
REC Fuel was started in 1997 by Dick and Curt Gower, owners of White Fuel Co. Providence, RI.
Government regulations and advances in information technology played an important role in their
decision to get involved in the fleet fueling industry. They have since joined California based
Commercial Fueling Network (CFN). CFN is a
nationwide network of over 2000 fuel dealers (members) who operate primarily unattended commercial
fueling sites accessed with magnetic stripe fueling cards. They also hired Wendy Hawkins as
General Manager to help run the operation.
This state of the art cardlock system is opened to local businesses giving them an alternative
fueling source. As a member of CFN; REC Customers now have access to over 2000 sites nationwide.
In addition to many locations REC offers Fuel Management Reports, Easy Access, 24/7 Availability,
Control over Fuel Type, Control over Time of day, Control over Day of the week, and Volume Discounts.
In 2001 REC decided to offer vehicle repair work on their current fuel buying customers. They
since have grown into a full fledged vehicle repair facility offering a Preventative Maintenance
Program provided under the parent name White Fuel Co. The combination of both Fleet Fuel & Fleet
Repairs goes hand in hand. The Fleet Fueling Program gives us mileage information so that we can
provide a Fleet Maintenance Program based upon each customer requirements for their fleet maintenance.
We are able to provide basic oil changes, inspections, and all major repair work and help the fleet
owners and managers better maintain their fleet and fleet maintenance records. We offer reasonable
rates and a fast turn around.
In 2003 Wendy became a member of the "R.I. Clean Cities Coalition". The coalition
partners meet monthly and discuss ways to improve the air quality in our state. The coalition
recognized the importance of clean renewable fuels. REC being in the fuel business knew the way
to go was to offer Biodiesel at the pump. Biodiesel is made from soybean oils or you can also make
it from restaurant grease. Biodiesel has no sulfur, less hydrocarbons, and reduced carbons and
particulates. This means it is environmentally better for our air quality; health wise people have
less respiratory and breathing problems, performance wise there is no change or modification to the
vehicles, economy wise it lowers our demand on foreign oil. REC now offers B-20 (20% Biodiesel) at the pump.
Currently REC sells over one and a half million gallons of fuel each year, offers a fleet maintenance
program and helps make Biodiesel a sustainable product.
